I post here some samples which explain the principles of bump maps on beveled lines. I use only lines with outer bevels in these cases because otherwise the line itself may cause problems in superpositions.
Of course, Ross' your technique with inner bevels has its own advantages which are different from the present ones!

Note that in previous images I also superposed different bevel profiles.

I am sure this relatively classical bump map technique could give many other effects and I hope you will enjoy it! (and also I apologise for a so long delay!)

... genius! Those brushes are absolutely stunning!

The glass looking one at he bottom middle of the page looks supernatural! Who knew that you could do this kind of things with a vector app!

I'm definately going to expreiment with this tonight.

    Amazing work, Ivan!

    Thank you friends!

But Risto, only 5 of these objects are constituted of brushes! Tomorrow I will send the four ones wich aren't there yet.

The other objects are textured beveled lines (like in my tutorial) and the glass object isn't a bevel but is based on the blob technique.

Yes I like brushes very much but I love Xara X for so many other things!

    Kind regards,

    ivan

    Great tutorial! But...

Ivan, I tried to download your xar file for this post, but when I left clicked, the Xara plugin wouldn't load it, stating it was a corrupt file.

When I right clicked, and saved it, loading it with Xara gave me this:

I have tried to download it and while the plugin announced a corrupted file I rightclick on it and "save graphics as" with a modified name, and it open correctly on my system.

But to avoid some problems I will provide it (and next .xar files) in zipped format like below.

Ivan, I tried the new zipped file and got the exact same thing. I think the corruption notice by the browser plugin is an indicator of something being a little funky. I opened a bunch of other Xara files and this is the only one giving me any grief.

    Anyone else have this problem?
