convert svg into...? (for use in Xara)

Hello,
I would like to buy some vector-images at fotolia.de
this site offers vectors only in .svg format. Xara cannot import this.

what would you recommend:
1) in which vector-format should .svg files be converted for the optimal use and manipulation in Xara?
2) which (free) software could do this conversion best?

I use inkscape, which is free , and save as pdf

this usually imports into xtreme pro 4 fine

there will always be some things that just will not transfer [eg: complex transparencies etc] - and this is likely to be the case whether you use inkscape, illustrator or whatever

I have found inkscape to be as good for me as illustrator in this respect, nothing is perfect

yes, I understand what you mean.
for my little aims and images I don't think I will get problems soon.
but I really hope, that Xara will include a svg-import in the next version
... or fotolia will accept .xar-files... ;-)

arrgh, problems...
1) I made a file in Xara.
2) Export as svg.
3) Import in Inkscape
4) conversion to eps
5) import eps in Xara --> error message (no Filter...)

what to do?
maybe .eps is not the best format - what alternative?
pdf works...

I would avoid eps - always problems with that and xtreme in my experience
[you did not mention eps in your original post]

svg from xtreme to inkscape
pdf from inkscape to xtreme

is the way I would do it

An answer before I even asked the question ... how cool is that!

I could have sworn that Xtreme Pro could import SVG, but obviously it can't.
Thanks to this post, I remembered that I had an older version of Inkscape on my PC.

And the conversion of a right now much needed SVG to PDF and the import into Xara worked perfectly.
