XPE does not work on dogs with short legs. (Just kidding).
It sounds like something is wrong with the install.
I would suggest uninstalling Xtreme and then installing it again.
If this does not work, tell us and we will try to think of something else.
I do know that this is not normal.

No it's not normal. I've never seen XPE load with buttons missing like that. I would reinstall and see if that doesn't clear it up. If not then repost here and we'll see what we can figure out!

sigh....
I have disconnected from the internet and shutdown ZoneAlarm Security Suite, then done all of the following:
I have un-installed, re-installed : no luck
I have un-installed, re-booted, re-installed : no luck
I have un-installed, re-booted, run Registry Mechanic to deep clean my registry, re-booted, re-installed : no luck
The other Xara products which are currently on my machine are:
Xara Screenmaker 3d trial
Xara WebStyle 4 version 4.01 registered version
Dreamweaver Extension
FrontPage Extension
I cannot find any log created during the install...
digging through the component list in ZoneAlarm, I have noticed that some modules are now located in :
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Xara
which used to be in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
and also notice that there are still some Xara modules in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
It would be handy if there was a restore defaults on boot by holding down one of the F keys, wouldn't have to uninstall, reinstall and you'd be back up and running.
Is there such a thing?
If not, pretty big on the wish list along with autosave.
Every day's a new day, "draw" on what you've learned.

My advice would be to leave Zone Alarm off, remove the modules it has installed into your Xara directory and try again. That's just weird!! I would remove the left over Xara Modules too in the System32 folder as well. A clean install means cleaning out everything that has to do with XaraXtreme. I was told to even delete the Xara Xtreme folders in Program Files/Xara/ directory and then go into your C:\Documents and Settings\Your Folder\Local Settings\Application Data\Xara and manually delete the XaraXtreme and XPE folders.Originally Posted by Kilvroch
If that doesn't work then I don't know what to suggest!!

sorry for the confusion.... ZoneAlarm does not put modules in any of the Xara folders.... it (Zone Alarm) tells you what componenets are in what folders.
I have now uninstalled my other Xara products, verified there were no Xara folders on my system, re-run Registry Mechanic to clean up the registry, re-installed Xtreme....
and STILL have the problem with the incomplete XPE!
I am at a loss now as to what to do.
Sigh.
The only other thing I can think of is perhaps you are missing a dll (dynamic link library) of some sort.
Oh Charles (with little musical notes), where are you??

Are you using a freshly downloaded copy of the installer? It may be the one you are using is corrupt in some way.

We are looking into this problem, which has also been reported by another user. We're not sure yet what's causing this to happen.
