gnurf, that's neat as well. will it be possible for you to drop a couple of bullet points on what features you used to get this effect on the image.

RTW1 thanks for the links. real nice tutorials.
stapan,
With regards to Xara, here's your photo with a few Xtreme modifications. This, literally, took less than 8 minutes and most of that was fiddling around with different colors. Unlike Steve I didn't redraw the whole case in Xtreme so this is truly your photo except for the 'Apple' logo and the shadow. I had to draw the logo so I could isolate it and apply different colors.
How are you progressing in Photoshop CS3?
Just checking up,
HayTay
here goes:
- color/tonal correction with levels (I'm using adjustment layers to easily adjust setting later if needed). White balance by clicking on the background, neutral (grey) balance by clicking on the highlight of the phone.
- Free transform (Ctrl-T) to rotate and straighten the perspective (Ctrl-drag the corners to fix the perspective)
- Contrast adjustment with curves in luminosity mode (still using adjustments layers)
- Select the phone with magnetic lasso or magic wand, apply a mask.
- If the mask isn't good enough, fix it with a brush on the mask layer (I had to adjust the corners for example).
- Add a new layer you place under the phone layer, paint a shadow with a soft brush or airbrush.
- If the image looks too cold add a warming photo filter adjustment layer.
