Nice effect cmone
Or, you could use Steve Newport's Smoke Brush.
Steve created this brush five years ago at least. It was whenever brushes were first introduced and before Xara Xtreme.

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. Groucho Marx.
Yes very nice indeed - though I'm not having luck in reproducing those nice whisps with Xcellents brush....
It can be made as easy as this.
2 forms 75 % transparent, white and feathered.
Here is the png and the xar.

Thank you!
Things you should never say when pulled over by the police:
Could you hold my beer while I dig out my license?
EDIT: I should mention the brush only works on dark backgrounds since it's lightening up dark areas only. It doesn't work on a white background.
Ungroup all elements, then select a stroke, open up the brush settings and see the parameters. Each stroke has different brush settings (except the word 'smoke' uses the same setting for each stroke). I used different sizes of the same brush-shape but with different settings for each stroke.
The brush-shape itself is a simple rectangle with a transparent stage fill.
