Glad you didn't leave these forums, Ivan, and thanks for you AWESOME work on the upcoming Inkscape release.
I think filters will really boost up the audience to that great software.
I added two new filters in the Masking tools submenu : Alpha draw and Alpha fill. The first one extract the colour fill from an image and the latter draws black lines from the edges.
Because each of these filters have an alpha channel when the two images are overlaid they give the result below : a colourized drawing.
And of course you keep the flexibility of changing settings and applying other filters to the separated black drawing and colourized fill. For example you can change the black lines to any other colour with the Colourize filter (change the blend setting to Normal and change the Flood colour).
Enjoy,
ivan

The same filters without sharpness (to remove sharpness, change the two last numbers in the last Color matrix to 1 and 0 instead of 6 and -2) ; notice the transparency which is so interesting for use in Xara.
In the second one (Alpha fill) the Composite primitive is set to "out" and in the third one it's set to "in".
Just one little problem at the moment : these two latest filters which use a Convolve matrix primitive give their best results at 96 dpi only because some work remains to do to make this primitive resolution independent. However this kind of filter always works better with high resolution images and thus this isn't a true limitation ; import them at their original size in Inkscape, apply the filter and export at 96 dpi, then open the result in Xara and resize it.
Enjoy !

Illustrations are here and the doc in french is coming ; see the filters by subsections under SVG Filters :

At the moment only the pictures are there in the English doc, waiting to the translation when I will have completely written the french texts :

...and there are also some novelties !
Enjoy,

Is there a "What's new" section somewhere?
Just wondering what actually changed from 0.46 to 0.47.
P.S. Ivan, just looked at Morphology and Protrusion filter sets! Stunning!
Giovanni,
0.47 render engine for filters is much better and quicker even if not absolutely perfect again.
