    Default Trikkie Trekkie Logo

    Trikkie Trekkie Logo
I wasn't sure where to post this, but this seems as good a place as any.
Here's a logo that may be familiar. It has certainly stood the test of time,
well it will at some future stardate.
I found it quite surprisingly difficult to draw,(in XXP)and it's not
perfect yet by any means. Mine's the one on the left.
So, point 1 of this posting; anyone fancy doing a better version
using XXP?(and telling me where I've gone wrong).
    2. Anyone able to do it any better/easier using another vector program?
    3. What is it about certain logos that make them successful? Do they
    share anything in common?
    4. There has been a lot of interest of late regarding logos on the forum,
so how about designing one for any fictional company or product.
This "challenge" is meant to be wider ranging than Remi's excellent
thread here recently, in as much as you are the designers and have
all the skills, you have a blank canvass upon which to work. You
have no rules to obey, you are totally in charge. Be prepared for
structured and positive criticism from everyone else, however.
Use any vector graphics program you want.
If you haven't seen the excellent workbooks in the XaraXone by Gary Priester,
then you could try in the index here, under "L" (for logos).
    Saludos,
    Bob.

I had a go at this. I used a linear fill then used the eyedropper to sample colours from the original bitmap, then applied a bevel and a shadow. I coloured the shadow white.

That's a very good effort Frances, and thanks for telling us how you achieved it.

Ok this reads, "Hard Labour" and it could be part of a jacket design
for a new book, or it could be part of a cd cover for a band of that
name, or the album title itself. It could be, but it isn't.
You can see the finished article here.
The font (Aftershock Debris) seemed ideal as it depicts breaking rocks,
and that is how we see the idea of hard labour.
But is it legible enough? Could it be improved upon?
    Saludos,
    Bob.

Logos should be simple ... unlike this one but it does transfer to black-and-white

OK, someone is going to say "Yes but, how do you justify it to an employer ... where's the relevance?"

Squaring the circle - completing the job ... the latest thinking on Pi is that it can never be resolved but even then our company will find innovative solutions, represented by the amalgam of circle and square, the wavy line. Centre implies attention to detail, a well balanced outcome without fuss, and comprises a pattern made of the infinity symbol - our guarantee.

Ok, someone is going to say "What a load of bull !"

... but not bad for 3 in the morning!

Addressing your point #3 Bob, I think the ST logo was a take on the CND symbol, which had become, by the time the series was made, an international peace symbol and Earth, in ST, had supposedly eradicated war. Simplicity plus recognition. Coincidentally it's the 50th birthday of the CND sign and this tells how it was designed.

Strange how it caused so much ire in certain quarters. Three straight lines in a circle, a 'mere' symbol can mean so much even in our complex Age.
