There is a new Xtreme Pro version downloadable from Xara site.
It can import PDF files and it works quite well.
In the attachment you find a vector image imported from a pdf file (it is not my design, just a test)

be aware, not to become a ware.
I had to uninstall the older version then re-install though I didn't have trouble having to re-register etc.
However more importantly I am having trouble importing PDF's.
A PDF made with XaraPro as a test will open in Xara no problem but a large (?) (8.5mb) PDF made using Serif Page Plus, ( I have some 48 - 50mb I was hoping to move to XPro) crashes Xara. At the moment I'm not impressed because I have always been able to open a document created in Xara using Xara, I had hoped to be able to open a PDF created elswhere. Lets hope its just me, though I have tried with several old PDF's for menu designs etc with no luck so far.
In fact with some PDF's, particularly the large ones, if I click on the file to open it and click Xara Xtreme to open the PDF rather than XtrmePro (by accident) it opens more of the file than Pro does as it will open the bitmaps from the file if not the rest. Pro just crashes or I get the message below.

I updated over the previous version with no problem.
I tried several PDFs and some would open. I am sure some were protected and wouldn't allow extraction of vectors.
Guess it would be good to list which PDFs will open.

I've attached a PDF made from a CorelDraw file. There is a JPEG to look at to see what it should look like.
When I open the PDF with Pro the central graphic is missing.

When I ran the installer, it wanted to un-install the previous version, so I let it. I then ran the installer again and everything installed just fine. No need to re-register.
All of the PDF's that I've tried to open so far have come in ok, although I'm warned about font substitutions. The PDF's I've tried came from: http://www.diogenes.sacramento.ca.us/18AL_18GA.html
I'm quite pleased with these results, as XX and XXPro can't open up the CorelDraw files on the same page (My copy of CorelDraw can't open them either, too old a version I guess), so I've been waiting for the ability to pull in the PDF files to work with.
I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't the final version of the PDF exporter, and Xara just wanted to get it out there to help with testing before they commit to mastering the Pro CD's for distribution.
This signature would be seven words long if it was six words shorter.
Derek,
I saw similar missing graphics from an Accrobat 6 file I created.
I tried a PDF from E3 and it loaded fine. I'll have to try with a vector drawing. I used a map filled drawing, and it came in as individual PNGs.

A vector drawing in E3 to PDF, and the PDF read into XXP. I needed to use break shapes to see this in vector.
1. A set of map filled objects with no lines saves to multiple PNGs.
2. A set of map filled objects with line width saves to objects filled with the PNG images.
3. Objects with map filles with a stroke applied, saves to PNGs with the stroke rasterized with the image.
4. Objects with strokes applied and unstructured, gives the PNG and the strokes as vector objects.
I didn't think there would be so much dirrerence in what I would get.
Rich
Masque, please can you attach the PDF files that you say don't import into XXP so we can investigate.
Thanks
Neil
