Webdings is a font developed by Microsoft. It started shipping as an integral part of IE-4, and has been included in all later versions.
I'm sure there are some computers that don't have it, but probably not very many!

Thanks Anders
That article said wingdings should NOT be used in Html.
I agree with that. Does anyone know about flash files?
Now I'm also thinking about MAC and webdings.
Could anyone clear all this up concerning flash files.
The info in the article on Webdings is certainly worth reading.
The list of Win XP fonts may be misleading. It includes international fonts that may be installed only when you select an associated language, perhaps when you install XP or perhaps if you change your language preference in XP's Regional and Language Options. (It's not something I'm willing to test right now.
I'm sure there's someone around here who knows more about it than I do. Here's a link to a list that has a bit more explanation:
http://home.classicnet.net/jimdan/Wi...butedFonts.htm
I compared the list of Windows XP fonts from the link in Anders' post to a fresh install direct from the factory and all the fonts are on the machine.
A list of fonts provided on Mac OS X includes Webdings http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/mac.htm
Note that the Webdings and WingDings fonts are not the same. Webdings font is available on Mac, Linux, Unix, and Windows computers since about 1997.
WingDing fonts have usually only been available on Windows computers, with some exceptions. WingDings has been around since at least Windows 3.0 but WingDings 2 and 3 came along after. I don't think they were on Windows 95 and possibly not on Windows 98 (original release). I do recall WingDings 2 being on Windows 98 Second Edition, but do not recall of WingDings 3 was on that version.

Ok, it may be an OEM issue, and as I said before, it may be a language/region option issue. The Thai and Hebrew fonts, for example, are not and have never been on any of my Velocity machines. And I just checked with our net admin who never fools with his Windows/Fonts folder, and those fonts aren't there either.
My assistant Mike did find another Fonts page on Microsoft's site with a list of fonts distributed with XP SP2 (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/....aspx?PID=145). It includes the foreign language fonts such as Angsana and David with a note at the bottom saying that the fonts may vary according to options you select. Two of my Velocity machines have never had anything but SP2 on them, and yet the fonts aren't there.
Mike also found this page http://www.ascendercorp.com/mscorefonts.html, which purports to be from the horse's mouth, as it were. Ascender Corp says that it develops and licenses MS's fonts. It identifies the core fonts as those that shipped with IE6.

You are wanting to use different fonts in a Flash file ? As far as I know once you have saved the Flash file , the font type used will be saved as a graphic in the flash format, so whatever font you use will look correct, because it has become a graphic file.
Unlike specifying different font types in html code that looks for that specific font to be installed on your computer.

Thanks guys
So it should be ok to use any font in a flash file.
But only webdings in html and I assume PDF
For Flash and PDF you can always convert text to editable shapes if there may be an issue or question about fonts on another computer.
