Increasing the size of very small feathered or shadowed objects may create extremely blurred objects, (which remain editable in the case of feathering only vector objects). But it is helpful to keep copies of the small objects because one cannot type high values for feathering. Here is a little "how to" in .xar format for the car you will see on my image intitulate "speed" in the gallery.
