I am often astonished by the results of very simple operations in Xara X!

This rose is made of a brush I show in next message; only four bitmap copies with bleach transparency are added to the original one to reach this frosty effect.
The depth of the original is obtained in converting the line to shape, ungrouping and adding blurred wall shadow.
Background texture is obtained in painting with brushes under a bleach transparent mosaïc tiled bitmap colorized with a blue surface and a yellow line.

Enjoy,

Here is the kit I used for this result. You can see the simple hand made spiral with its external extremity slightly moved inside.

For those who like this kind of fractal forms (I think to Erik perhaps), here is a nice address:

1° I have made a bitmap copy without alpha of my first rose bitmap and applied line color light blue and surface color violine,
2° I superpose this bitmap with a bleach transparency added, to the previous result (see first post),
3° I create a new bitmap of the whole,
2° I applied a shadow with all settings to "0" to another copy of the same first bitmap, and converted to editable shapes,
3° I used the shadow bitmap to apply transparency to the bitmap created at step 3°.

Ivan, you know me too well. Yesyesyes these forms of snowcrystals do fascinate me.
Your roses too...know that I have a folder "Xara tutorials" and in that folder another one called "Ivan". It was your creativity that unleashed mine. I follow a different path, and don't always "see" how you get your fascinating results (because I haven't tried them out...yet) but knowing that these things are possible was necessary for me. The other drawing tool(cdr9) now seems boring and dull.
Simply think how awesome it is that Xara has been designed by humans like you and I, and that they probably even didn't know to what this could lead.

Because that's what makes this Xara so fascinating: with the other drawing tools, you still get this "Microsoft" feeling, I mean that you are free to work and play within the boundaries set by the imagination of the digital architects who designed the app. With Xara this seems to be untrue. Or the designers, when still children, fell into a big bowl of LSD, style Obelix, or some cosmic Blakeian power overtook them when designing.
But there seems to be no limit but your own creativity. And that is unique.
