But I don't think the transparency that covers the orchid on the left does anything for the drawing. I'd make it like the one on the right. There's just something off-putting about that for me.

I have tried drawing flowers on a number of occasions and I can't get close. Without wishing to sound immodest, I consider myself to have good drawing skills, if not with Xara yet, at least with more traditional drawing tools. Your drawing seems to have a great empathy with the subject. You are obviously a lover of, or at least surrounded by, flowers. That weightless, translucency is remarkable.

...awesome and beautiful. A masterpiece. Just imagine to have it digitally printed in poster format with a glossy surface. It'll be a smashing hit for all poster companies around the globe. Or orchid growers, traders, importers...

..to share feelings that one can express in (painting) Xara. The creative spirit pushes one forward...Xara is so challanging.

I love it. I think flowers have to be drawn or painted from the real thing instead of a photo to catch their delicate and often translucent qualities. Not an easy task as they move with the light.

..I'm answering your post because you made a suggestion about a transparency on the left.

I couldn't decifer what exactly you had in mind..but I wanted to use your suggestion. Anyway, I did some re-doing..check out the new one. I deleted the first one and upload the reworked one.

See if you see where I used your suggestion or not. Thanks again!

I see the change Bill - And it is truly amazing how much more depth was generated with the change.

I've learned from your image tips on building depth into images through use of transparent compositional elements like your vertical strips and light rays. Thanks!
