iv'e not seen this technique in any of the threads so i hope i'm not duplicating anybody's work....i taught myself this one in psp and it works beautifully in XARA X.
if anybody wants i will gladly do a do a mini-tut
i think this effect works well when doing photorealistic artwork, i.e. car badges
cheers

Of course we want a mini-tutorial!!! While there have been other threads in the past discussing drawing chrome effects it would still be great to see how you did it.

Thanx Eric! - I suppose somewhat careful selection of the bitmap is in order?? You must get very different effects with different bitmaps.

nice chromes .... I would think that the best bitmaps to use would contain sky and clouds and not to much color but with some darker regions. Something with earth colors and placed so you might not know what's being reflected in it. Unless you wanted to show what was reflected in it

yeah,
2 minutes to do the thing and twenty minutes trying to get it right, yes skies are good, if i'm doig say a car badge i think about what would be a good reflection...i.e a carpark when i did the snooker ball in jean-guys thread i did a pic of a living room, i'll try to find a sky-land horizon, i think thats is what is suggested in many of the chrome text tutorials, i also think desaturating the colours helps too.
[heres a superb font for all you logoholics out there...]

... idea Eric!
Thanks for the mini tut - it doesn't get much clearer than that.

Well it certainly is PHOTO realistic, huh? :-)
Nice technique, Eric, although being a diehard, I prefer to create my own chrome from scratch. Call me anal

You want chrome effects? Gee, it's an endless topic or nightmare, depending on your point of view.
This is my 5 cents on chrome: (oh no, this time the forum software doesn't have a chance to bug me again!)
several chrome effects on different backgrounds
Have fun !
