Can't read file
I have Xtreme5.
I was working on a Web site I designed with Xara and while doing so, I experienced a computer crash.
I rebooted to find out that I can't open the Xara file I was working on.
I have attached the culprit file in the hope that someone can help me recuperate the file.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Can't read file
Hi Rick,
I tried using expandxar.exe to see if it would recover your file but it reported DoImport failed.
Did you use XaReg to turn on the creation of .bak files?
XaReg is a utility program that can be used to turn on or off some of the undocumented features the Xara developers have made available within the Windows Registry.

Re: Can't read file
No, hadn't turned on .bak file creation in XaReg. Didn't know it could do this.
Now I know, but I hope it isn't too late.....
Thanks anyway

Re: Can't read file
Expandxar.exe is the only method available to us mere mortals. :)
You can open a ticket with http://support.xara.com, they may or may not be able to retrieve your file. Of course Xara is a small company and everyone is busy with the latest release, so it may be awhile before a reply can be made.

Re: Can't read file
One other thing you could try is open a new file and drag the xar file into it from explorer.

Hi Christine,
I tried that and got the same error message about an unknown read error.

Re: Can't read file
Thanks all,
I just opened a ticket on the XARA support site and cross my fingers in the hope they can repair the file.
If someone else can help, it would very much be appreciated.
I'm going to have a couple of beers now......

Re: Can't read file
Well, I got an answer back from Xara Support. They repaired the file the best way they could and returned it to me.
I immediatly opened the recovered file and to my great dissapointment, I saw only the first page of my Web site which originally contained about 12 pages. So I lost 11 pages of work, but I learned a very good lesson in backup. What a nice feature this automatic backup in Xtreme Pro 6, but too late for me......
Cheers.....

Re: Can't read file
Sorry to hear only the first page was recoverable.
