It has been so quiet around here.
Here is a picture that I put together with Xara X. It started as two photos taken with different exposure settings. I combined the two to get the following result.

What a stunning photograph(s). It inspired me to recreate the rose in vector. It was a great subject. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm thrilled that my little exercise gave you some inspiration. Yours encourages me to look at my photos as templates to build from. Cool!

Isn't it amazing how subtle the colors in the rose are? Most people like the real intensely colored roses, deep red, bright yellow, etc. I have always preferred the most subtle colors, like the rose in photographed.
Egg - What is that background material???

The background is from the Clip art / Photos1/ Brain coral folder. I used the colour picker extensively throughout recreating the rose and it amazed me how dark certain parts of the rose looked on a white background and it wasn't until a real dark background was added that the dark areas lightened up. Rose without background attached.

Beautiful job from both of you.
Egg, I'd love it if you could pick a petal and show how you built up the shape.

Here's a mini Tut. Layers are essential as it can become very difficult to pick individual petals otherwise. I used about 6.
